The ability to switch the tourney barrier on and off. The barrier obsoletes alot of ships, that built before the update, worked quite well.

I was wondering if a round barrier would still allow a sniper/runner to move backwards, but stay within the playing field.

Well... I had created a sort of hit and run ship for the tournament. It no longer works, so i have literally no chance of winning at all.

I think that the point of the barrier is to make ships that are completely impractical in the main game not viable for tournament usage, eg: F4 ships which keep their distance thanks to their insane recoil and only mount engines as an afterthought.
The barrier doesn't make more reasonable "runner" ships obsolete, such as drone spammers, as they generally posses sufficient manoeuvrability to "recover" after hitting the barrier.

Aye. It doesn't really stop them, but corner situations leave them vulnerable to a good knocking.

If the arena was a circle, you could maneuver indefinitely without having to worry about corners.

I can get behind "circle arena", at least as an option since the code is already there.

Well, for the tournament at least, i had submitted my fleet BEFORE the update. I was attempting to suggest something that would add a way to one, make it fair to those who had built ships that the only way to actually win is with their running tactics, And two, would add an option to a feature that was added to improve game play. It is just a detriment to some.

I had suggested using a barrier that not only stopped a ship, but also dealt melee damage to whatever touched it. This would encourage brawler ship designs as i almost exclusively see in enemy fleets - giant clunky husks of slow moving armor. On top of that, add asteroids for more realism. I despised having no arena enclosure, as the meta was either a run away forever ship, or a trollship designed to lure enemies close and murder them
