Is there a way in future to add some kind if bi-directional Pipe / UDP Socket inside running Game Instance to use it as IPC for modding purposes.

This way we will avoid many issues with blocks placement coordinates precision and placement order. Just control design-time from external program without a need to come up with stable LUA script.


With mentioned kind of IPC there will be a way to implement an algorithm, similar to NEAT (Neuro Evolution through Augminting Topology) - an iterative process.
We will just express the Building Actions in DNA terms and run dynamic DNA decryption on running Game instance.
Once the ship is assembled and all blocks are baked we are free to export new design and use it in tournament.

Otherwise, it will be needed to really expose some C++ stuff of ship building to integrate into our GA program and bake the blocks externally.

Headless would run the game without graphics, so you get the results of the simulated tournament without spending resources on drawing it.

Oh crap I just realized there is an arena command, maybe I might be able to do automated fleet battles with it instead of just automated 1v1s, hopefully...

I have been experimenting with some evolution stuff and have wanted to get some kind of RPC/modding mechanism in there for a long time. This might be an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. The easiest way (for me) to do RPC would be to extend the existing command line interface and just receive the commands over a socket. Could add a bunch of commands that respond with lua data:
* get block stats for block id
* list all blocks (and positions) in a cluster
* get list of possible connections when adding block id at position/angle
* attach block at particular position/angle
* get list of blocks intersecting shape

Does this sound workable?
